Von Mises

The main beams of the Von Mises footbridge have a variable edge based on the von Mises yield criterion of a biaxially supported beam under a uniformly distributed load. The normal stresses of the section are proportional to the law of moments, thus describing a parabolic curve, while the law of tangential stresses describes a bilinear graph. The von Mises yield criterion describes a sinuous line that serves as inspiration for the shape of the Von Mises footbridge, thus trying to homogenise the tensions of the beam fibres along its directrix. The elevation is intended to express the structural functioning of the bridge.
